Anyone have any experience with a "fear biting" dog?
I adopted a 10 month old hound mix from the shelter 3 months ago. For awhile, she was a perfectly sweet, loving dog. We had absolutely no problems with her. Over the last few weeks, however, she has begun to be very fearful of everything. When people try to pet her, she cowers down as though they're going to hit her, then she'll jump and nip at them. If they're leaning down, which they have to be because she's a small dog, she'll almost always go for the face. She'll nip at your hands if you're walking around in the yard with her. She just seems so anxious and nervous all the time. If I didnt' know better, I'd say she was neurotic. I've tried correcting the behavior every way I know how except for hitting or electronic collars, because I do not believe hurting a dog is ever the answer in training or discipline .Anybody have any experience with similar dogs? And please, no " this is YOUR fault" stuff, because it's not like I'm sitting by and letting this happen. It just seems that every time I try to correct her, it only makes her even more nervous, which intensifies the nipping. It's gotten to the point now where I can't even let my children play with her, because she nipped my daughter's cheek last week, and I'm so afraid she's going to end up really hurting someone. It's not just when people lean over. She nipped at the vet during her checkup the other day, and the vet said we " need to watch this behavior" . She'll also bite at people's faces when they're stooping or squatting down to her. She's not particular about who she nips. She'll nip anybody who comes close to her, including me, and I'm the one who has the most contact with her. I noticed that this behavior started after she was spayed, but I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Since she's lived with us, no one has struck her or yelled at her or anything like that. My kids are noisy, but that's not going to change anytime soon. They're 6 and 9, and noise comes with the territory when you have kids. What scares me the most is the fact that she bit my daughter's face, and left a bruise. She's never broken the skin, but I'm afraid it's only a matter of time unless we can get a handle on this.Oh, she's with me at least 10 hours per day. She's mostly an inside dog, except with she goes out to potty or for a little playtime in the back yard. If I have to go anywhere, she is crated, or she comes with me. I don't know what the problem is. Could it be hormonal? She doesn't seem to be in pain. I clean her ears regularly, and for some reason, that doesn't seem to bother her. She just had a checkup last week, and she had no parasites or anything.

Can dog fear biting children be helped with anti anxiety meds (along with training)?
I have tried several behavioral methods for 2 years now, and the problem still exists. My vet is recommending anti anxiety meds since he is doing this out of anxiety, along with continuing his training. My vet did a blood panel on my dog and he has no medical problems that would be causing his fear of kids. Its more an anxiety issue.Anyone in the vet profession, or anyone who owns a dog and has experience with this, I d love to hear from you BTW, my dog is amazing except for this one problem.

How do I train my 5 month old puppy to stop fear biting?
My puppy is 5 months old and has been with my family for 3 months. She is great with my kids, who are as young as 2, but takes weeks to warm up to other people, and is fearful and bites if they try to touch her. I am concerned about this because I take her with me when I am visiting friends, but she will try to bite them even in their house. Getting rid of her will only be a very last resort, as she is a part of our family already. How do I stop this behavior before it's too late?

Please answer...fear biting? introducing? please help?
Okay, for those of you who dont know, i rescued a 5 year old mother dog and her 5 7 week old puppies a few weeks ago. Anyway, her housebreaking is doing fine. She is gaining weight, steadly. Her hips and stuff are less promenant. She is playful, loves people. Her fear of being left outside for good again is subsiding. She isnt breaking her teeth agenst the bowl anymore. etc. Doing wonderfully. Her puppies have all found homes. However, due to the face that she has never been indoors, she isnt used to everyday sounds. We have been getting her used to sounds, slowly. However there are still 3 everyday sounds that she just goes buserk with Toilet Flushing, bath water running, and the vacume. When we flush the toilet, wether its the one upstairs or the one downstarirs, she puts her fur up, runs around all in a panic, growling, and hides in her kennel. When we run bath water, she does the same thing, BUT she will attack the running water and well and if u are sitting in the tub she will bite blindly...often getting you as she is attacking the water. When she is in her kennel she barks and growls. And the vacume...She attacks it..if she can see it...its " dead" . sence the first time we turned it on. Wether its on or off now she attacks it...How can we get her used to these things?Another issue is the celing fan....She goes crazy and runs in circles under it, barking and growling. How can we get her over this?Next week we will be having her spayed. What are some after spay care prcedures? What should we watch for? Also, how soon after this can we introduce her to our dog pack?11 year old pit bull3, 7 week old heeler pups.7 month old heeler3 year old laba sheperd and a dobieAll of our dogs are very well socalized and are always playing with dogs at the dog park etc. But the mother dog, has never been around strange dogs or anything thanks Asked once got no answers.yes...we live on a cattle ranch..and train our own herding dogs lol....we also work on public pastures. and often help at other peoples brandings

How do I fix a dog's fear biting behavior?
The past year I have found 5 dogs. I brought them out of states of confusion to trust me. Other people frightened and afraid, didn't want to try. I did this and found they were just scared. I found 4 out of 5 dogs home. My latest project is some kind of wiener dog,and or chiwahwah, and or jack russell, and or mini pinscher. I have tried and tried and can't find her owner. I can't keep her and need to find her a new home. A neighbor tried her out and kept her two days and has now gave her back. Now that I have her back again I want to try to work on her timid and easily startled behavior. I fear if I don't it will be hard to put her somewhere in a home. One incident she went after the cat I grabbed her from behind she turned and screeched and went to bite, I then grabbed her by the nap of her neck and held her until she calmed down, she also peed. She startles easy and fear bites, they are not too hard more bruising than anything else. She is then extremely submissive afterward, crawls, tail tucked, bellys up sometimes. Not sure why she is repentive afterwards. Abused in the past? Also when she is sleeping we have to make sure she is fully awake before moving her. Even when we are holding her. She nips bites and occasionally has a growl with it. Any recommended way to see triggers and how to stop them? I'm afraid if I don't do this it will take forever to find her a home, unless they are dog people like us, with lots of patients and no kids. Other than that a awesome awesome dog in everyway. Thanks alotI guess I make her sound a little too fearful. She does play chases the ball, gets along with my dog, very little aggression there accept when foods involved, but she still takes a submissive approach. She barks tuckers down in stance, and tucks tail. She comes forward towards him, but doesn't try to make herself taller. She also kind of shoot after him when she sleeping and he gets near. But again, plays, eats, listens exspect when a rabbits in the backyard which is fenced Maybe this will help some

Fear biting in my female Shiloh Shepherd...?
I have a female Shiloh Shepherd that isn't quite a year yet, whom I've had since she was 5 weeks old. I take her everywhere with me as well as my other small male dog, including the off leash dog park, dog beach, parents house and anywhere else dog friendly since she was a puppy. She has never bitten anyone and rarely barks at people unless she is in my car or at home and sees someone passing by, however if someone reaches down to pet her when we are out at the park or beach she freaks and starts barking at them and runs to hide behind me when I call her name.Since she has never bitten anyone I've thought nothing of it until a few weeks ago when I took her to the vet for a booster and to make her appointment to get spayed. At the appointment the vet told me that she was a fear biter and if anyone continued to move toward her when she barked at them the way she does she would bite them no doubt, including the vet herself who had me muzzle her. She has been socialized since I've gotten her AND is the sweetest most submissive dog I've ever had. She has never even remotely growled or shown any type of aggression towards anyone in my family or circle of friends after being introduced to her, but now I am scared half to death that she WILL bite someone, is there nothing I can do to keep her from fear biting other then never taking her anywhere?I would really like less anxiety when I take her places. Please only serious answers.

Very nervous new to me chihuahua "fear bites" sometimes, how do i stop this & help her relax?
i just got a chihuahua italian greyhound mix from the shelter a few days ago... she absolutely idolizes me, glued to my ankles... will let me basically do anything to her roll her on her back, play with her feet and ears, grab her muzzle, touch her tail... anything. she follows me around like a shaddow.to me, shes the best dog in the world, but as soon as she gets around other people she tenses up and when they go to pet her, she will nip. or today, she went for her first vet check up, and she bit the vet and drew blood they had to muzzle her.ive been taking her as many places as i can and giving people treats to give her in hopes that she will warm up to people, but is there anything else i can do? i know its only been a few days, but i really want her to be a loving, social dog. training dogs is a hobby of mine help friends and family with their dogs and learn new things as situations present themselves , but ive never had to deal with fear biting yet.she is a very intelligent dog, in the few days ive had her, shes learned to sit, lay down, take a bow, and high five... so, very smart and catches on quickly... question is how do i help her warm up to people, without having to worry about my friends family getting biten in the process?

How to train anxiety in my dog and stop fear-biting/aggressiveness?
I got my dog last year at the shelter. He's about 2 and a half years and is a smooth collie mix. He's very active and hyper. He has really bad anxiety problems. during the first few months, he was scared to even go on walks and always began panting, shaking, and choking himself trying to go back in my house. Sometimes I couldn't even get him out of the backyard. But now he's better on walks, but still shakes and pulls on the leash trying to get back in my house. He also gets very hyper when other people come to my house. He starts barking and jumping on people. It worries me because he might knock someone down and actually hurt them. He also pees on the floor because he's so hyper. He also dug up my mom's guava tree. He did it several times. The first time, my mom slapped him a lot and yelled. The next day he did it again, but this time he tore up the tree. We punished him again, but he still dug it up the next day, and the next. Eventually, I had to put up a fence to stop him, but my mom doesn't want a fence in the garden. Also, he has problems with some dogs, normally bigger dogs, but not always. He gets really aggressive and begins barking, biting, and attacking the other dogs. But its really random because it only happens with some dogs, but not others. At the dog park, he always knocks over smaller dogs and stands over them. He sometimes bites their neck too.Last week, my mom took him to petco for his shots and he was really anxious. He began trying to attack other dogs, who didn't even do anything to him. When they tried to give him his shots, he began struggling a lot and biting people. They tried to put the muzzle on him, but couldn't because he was struggling too much. He bit a lot of people including my mom. They couldn't give him the shots, so my mom eventually left. Today we took him to the vet to get the shots, and he was still very anxious. He was shaking and panting a lot. When we tried to give him the shots, he struggled so much that we had to get a muzzle on him. The vet tried to put the muzzle on, but wasn't able to. When he tried again, my dog tried to bite him. The vet left the room and my mom and I were able to get the muzzle on him. When we tried to give the shots again, he struggled so much and even broke one of the syringes. How do I solve all these problems? He's a good nature dog in general. It's mostly the anxiety that worries me, and the random aggressivenessHe's not unhappy, he's kind of the opposite, he's really hyper and friendly. It's just when the environment is stressful, he becomes nervous.
